Research, mobilization and supplementing of seed fund of the Botanical Garden with perspective taxa for the national economy of the republic (2011-2014)
Botanical Gardens role in preserving plant diversity has been recognized over the time and is now marked in various international documents. Botanical Gardens contribution to the Global Strategy for Biodiversity Conservation covers a number of areas of high priority, one of them ex-situ conservation - by creating of seeds collections. Botanical Garden seed collection brings together the seeds of the species of wild flora, species of living collections of closed and open field land. The main objective of the collection is short-term seed conservation, because facilities do not allow optimal conditions for medium and long term storage. Identification of seeds collected are used for editing the catalog of seeds. According to international conventions on international exchange, seeds are offered only for scientific purposes. Botanical Garden (Institute) of ASM through spontaneous flora and herbarium Laboratory, performs international exchange of seeds with similar institutions of European profile:
